Create your own chain reaction, powered by tension, by weaving together popsicle sticks, coffee stir sticks, or large craft sticks in various patterns.

Use the image to create a pattern as you carefully arrange your sticks. Weave different patterns to achieve varying results. When you finally remove your last stick, watch out for some science fun!

 

Helpful tips:

• Younger scientists may need some help getting started; an extra pair of hands is often useful.

• Use books to hold down the chain as you go. This way, if the section of the chain you are working on reacts, you won't lose the whole chain.
